Contemplations

Story behind sharing Brothers Karamazov

I've spent many years heading out on adventures with boys, my sons, the Boy Scouts, and friends. We mix in service activities to help everyone see they can make a difference for those in need. Camaraderie builds quickly and you really get tight with most. The tougher challenges you remember longer and brag about them whenever you meet up with your friends again. When I read the book and followed the antics of the boys, I was really struck by the wisdom of the author when he made that statement through Alyosha.

Some early morning contemplations before my day's adventure:

June 29, 2019 - Who cherishes the gift of agency? Consider our physical bodies, with all that which robs agency. What a challenge it is to be alive the next day once you hand over your agency to the alcohol you purchased, drugs you procured. Plod through the night with diminished cognitive recourses. Who is leading you? What is leading you? Does the environment you choose give you a break? You can't be told you're addicted, its taken as an insult, offence. Your quick to rationalize it to your accusers. One has to think how sophisticated the plan is that has been laid to rob you of all agency. One feather at a time, till you can no longer fly and he has won. But has he?
June 30, 2019 - What is the significance of seeking Learning? Psychologically the two best predictors of success are intelligence and industriousness. I've believed intelligence is not fixed. I now have heard of the concept of Compound Interest applied to learning. In D&C it Indicates the more knowledge and intelligence one gains in this life through their diligence and obedience than another, they will have so much the advantage in the world to come. Its not just a bit, but so much the advantage. Two paths of learning for me and my friend Pavel. Mine - Relationships/Communication, his - Principles, Patterns, how things work. One skill to build up the team, the other brings in the problem solving, beneficial for all.
