Setting up the sites, grab lunch an head off to
the Cliff Jumping |
|
|
Setting up the pro site. |
The older guys have done this before. Same Tents |
Definitely easier for those not vertically challenged. |
Younger boys applying their training. |
Lunch is sub sandwiches. Vegetarian I think. |
If you have Cheese, is it still vegetarian? |
Beds ready for tonight. Bring on Lunch. |
Applying the fresh ground pepper. Nice touch for roughing it. |
Off to Castle Mountain... |
|
|
|
So there's the north cliffs and no ones on them. |
Showing them how its done. But they have to jump off the south cliffs and
swim over to the larger North cliffs. |
Such form... |
OK, you jump in first. |
Philip the brave leads off. |
Chris launches hot on his heals |
Dealing to commitment... |
Show them again how to take on a challenge. |
The girls in bikinis try to show up the boys... |
After some simple jumps, Josh goes for the aerial roll. He gets a full
round of applause from all the crowd. |
Cohen takes his jump... |
Then Lucius. |
Cohen springs off and swims to the south cliffs. |
The big splash |
Phillip keeps taking the plunge. |
Josh hot on his heals... |
Bowen follows a 3 man rush. |
Dangerous Dan finally takes the jump and they all climb out. |
Getting psyched up for some south cliff aerobatics. |
Chris doing a depth check. |
and it's plenty deep, no Chris visible. |
Bowen cooling his jets. |
Lucius swimming with the current |
Doing the mental prep for a back flip. |
Even Jason is jumping now. |
Jack, our photo shooter, taking a break. |
Chris and Lucius plunge in while Josh still psyches up. |
OK, watch me flex my pecks as I drop. |
Kind of like those Acapulco cliff divers, you need just the right spot for
take-off. |
Daniel come up to assess the risks. |
There it is. He's fully psyched and there's the jump. |
Did you know there's big fish in here, like, maybe a barracuda? |
What do you say we jump together? |
Synchronized swimming has nothing on these guys. |
Ike launches off the south cliffs |
Getting ready for that last summersault. |
And there you have it. Crowds cheer! |
So inviting, eh Phillip.... |
And he's just swimming over to the older girls. |
Lucius
acclimatized. No shivers affecting him anymore. |
Phillip taking a low risk cliff. |
Cliff jumping novelty is getting out staged by rock climbing |
The exit strategy. It non-trivial where you can make it to the top. |
Got the body out... |
Just need to grapple with these hot sun baked rocks... |
and he's up. |
and now he's back down. |
Seems interests have moved over to the rapids. |
Let's try some slime rock sliding... |
Ashton takes on the south cliffs. |
Who needs cliffs when you can shoot the rapids. |
Let the current take you down. |
The gauntlet's been dropped, and Ike's up for the challenge. |
A bit tipsy here. |
Lucius comes along for moral support, and they're both in. |
Last call. Need to get one more jump in. |
The stragglers finally come out. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Dinner
- Pulled Pork on a bun, doesn't get better than that after this event. |
|
|
Every good meal needs water. But this is not like turning on a
tap. |
Almost full, 10 minutes later. What a workout! |
So should we toast some of the buns? |
For those not on dinner chores, there's some game time. |
and chasing your brother time. |
Now for some real gaming. I'll bet you 2 Chips Ahoy for your Cinnamon
Bun. |
Some last minute testing by fire light. |
and one last golden brown marshmallow. |
well, maybe a couple more. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Karl's
morning walk with God |
|
|
Get up at first light. Everything is just waking, but still peaceful.
Contemplation of higher things comes naturally. |
It's a 2k hike around this serene lake. Just right for a deep prayer. |
Gratitude effortlessly fills my whole body while I take in the
intricate and the majestic. |
My mind floods with memories. An image of Sam who went on this very
same path with me seven year earlier. |
Here's someone's effort to help me take time and sit. Gaze out and reflect
within. |
A bridge built to carry me over the incoming waters. They wanted to help
me stay focused on the moment and not on any side struggles. |
I can feel God walking beside me and kind of conversing, pondering and
planning the road ahead. What have I done and what should I do? |
I reflected on warm memories of a dog that loved me unconditionally and
shared these special moments. |
The gift of sunlight starts its creep out from under Crows Nest mountain. |
It also start to warm me as rays filter through the branches and land on
me. |
I see more details. |
I need to reflect it to others. |
|
|
|
|
Breakfast
- Crepes by expert chefs. Sweet or savory. |
|
|
|
The pan needs just the right amount of butter, and be at just the right temp. |
Then it's all in the flip. |
Lucius opted for sweet, with fresh berries. |
Nutella for the 2nd round. |
OK, the spoon's a bit big, but what else can I use? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Turtle Mountain hike |
|
|
|
Everyone's up for the challenge. Water bottles, snacks, dang, forgot the
trail mix. |
Too hot for a toque. Catch this guy on the way back. |
Our 1st view point. Some decent elevation gain so far. |
Quick break to rehydrate and bring the respiratory rate down. |
Max elevation for the rear group. Time now for some Pine Cone
poker. |
Chris and Philly try out fire starting with a flint. Went through the
whole flint. Nothing. |
Inspired by the Irish Caper toss... |
We'll need to select some hefty logs... |
I could manage this one. |
Now we're talking... |
Lucius sizes one up. |
Chris does the toss, not bad. |
Quick aside for entomology field work, or more specifically "myrmecology".
So how log will it take the ants to to stash 300 eggs? |
With all that teamwork, looks like only a couple minutes. |
|
|
Back
over to the lead team on the lower sumit... |
Lead team getting the big view. |
Philip considering how close to the edge |
a guy should go for the full elevation gain pic. |
Got word from the lead team that they reached the summit. Might are well
get a jump on those energizer bunnies and start heading down. |
You know, trekking down makes the trail seem more precarious than the experience
coming up. |
but at least you can slide down on your butt. |
Well, at least until you get to cliff edge. |
Good to have that grip factor you get with gum boots on these edges. |
Then there's those convenient roots exposed just when you need them. |
Nothing like a Circle K Froster Swirl for the job well done reward. |
|
|
|
|
|
Dinner & Lunch (Hike took longer than estimated) -
Hotdogs and Taco's in a bag.
Actually forgot the hogs and just made hamburger patties with half the
hamburger meat. |
|
|
Cutting up the veggies |
Form those patties. |
How big should the patty be? |
OK. Applying some compression to ensure it gets cooked through. |
We'll need the whole pan for that one. |
Phillip pulls up water duty for dinner cleanup. Just another work out for
the day. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Evening
games |
|
|
|
We started off with spear chucking. |
With some of the powerful shots, it evolved into spear dodging. |
That
was followed by a round of capture the flag. Need pics from the other guys
for this as I was real busy hiding our flag. Nobody was able to fine it
after that, including us. |
|
Finishing the night with a cool dip. |
Waist deep was tops for most of the group. |
Josh challenges himself to just race in. |
Phillip tries the slow immersion approach. And then everyone heads out. |
|
|
|
|
Breakfast
- Bacon, sausages and eggs, lots of eggs. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
We
then took down camp and headed home. |
Had
a bit of confusion about reservation date and had some late night site
switching, but we managed. |
